Peyton's Story

On Tuesday, April 23, 2024, Peyton (16), the daughter of Michael & Chrystel Queen, was riding home from school with a friend and her friend’s 11-year-old sister. Their vehicle ran off the road, over-corrected, and lost control, hitting two trees.

Thankfully, the girls are still here with us today.  Unfortunately, Peyton sustained multiple injuries. After the accident occurred, Peyton didn’t realize that both femurs were broken until she tried to stand and wasn’t able to. Her right leg had a compound fracture, meaning the bone was through the skin.

Peyton had emergency surgery Tuesday night into Wednesday morning.  The surgeon had to place rods in both of her legs to repair the damage from the accident.  Peyton may still need another surgery in the near future if the surgeon wasn’t able to align her legs properly.  It is very difficult to align a broken leg when both are broken. 

On the night of surgery, Peyton received two blood transfusions due to the severity of her blood loss. Since then, Peyton has continued to lose blood, having a total of six blood transfusions thus far. 

We are unsure when she will be able to come home from the hospital. However, we are optimistic that it will be soon! Peyton will need extensive physical therapy for several months to learn to walk again. 

Peyton has been in great spirits through this unforeseen event.  She has done everything the therapist and nurses have told her to do without any complaints. She is ready to be able to walk again so she can get back to her normal routine and hunting and fishing.
